OMAHA - A Nebraska Corrections Center is under quarantine after an inmate tested positive for COVID-19.

According to a news release, the inmate had been assigned to the Community Corrections Center in Omaha.

Director Scott Frakes says the individual was hospitalized Monday from unrelated health issues, and was tested upon admission, the positive result came back Tuesday.

The release says during quarantine, inmates will be confined to their rooms and will not be able to participate in work detail or work release jobs until they are medically cleared to do so.

This is the first case of an inmate in NDCS testing positive for COVID-19. Eight staff members with the agency have tested positive.
