Chadron Police Department participating in ‘Click it or Ticket’
The Chadron Police Department will be participating in the “Click it or Ticket” selective overtime enforcement grant campaign during the weeks of May 18th to May 31st.
CHADRON, Neb. The Chadron Police Department will be participating in the “Click it or Ticket” selective overtime enforcement grant campaign during the weeks of May 18th to May 31st.
The goal of this grant is to inform and educate the public on safe driving habits, while increasing the use of safety restraints.
According to data from the Nebraska Department of Transportation, there were 249 fatalities on Nebraska roadways in 2019.
Only 34 percent of those vehicle occupants were wearing safety belts.
It is important to know proper seatbelt usage can reduce the risk of serious injury and death by 45% to 50%.
Though we are experiencing a different kind of normal, and not as many people are traveling lately, more than 50% of vehicle accidents occur within 5 miles of home.
More than 75% occur within 15 miles from home.
Though you may not be traveling, it is still important to practice safe driving habits even so close to home.
This campaign is made possible across the state through grant money awarded by the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
The grant money will be used to reimburse overtime money spent by agencies during the selective enforcement campaign.
The Nebraska Office of Highway Safety will reimburse the Chadron Police Department up to $1,000.00 to participate.
During the “Click it or Ticket” grant campaign, the Chadron Police Department will be looking for traffic violations while focusing on seatbelt and child restraint usage.
A recent survey shows approximately 59 percent of drivers in Chadron use seatbelts.
Officers would urge all motorists to help increase that percentage.
The Nebraska Office of Highway Safety and the Chadron Police Department would like to remind motorists to practice safe driving habits, buckle up and have a safe and enjoyable spring.
If the public has any questions regarding the use of seat belts or the child restraint systems, they can stop by the Chadron Police Department located at 125 Main St. Chadron or call (308) 432-0510.
