The Nebraska Football Road Race presented by the Lincoln Track Club has raised more than $150,000 to support pediatric brain cancer research in the past six years. The 2020 Race, set for June 28th seeks to continue the Husker Football tradition of bringing the community together to raise awareness and support for children and families affected by the disease.

In light of COVID-19, Road Race directors have relied heavily on the expertise of medical professionals and leadership at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to make the best possible decision to ensure the safety of our runners and volunteers. With careful consideration, the decision has been made to transition the 2020 Nebraska Football Road Race to a virtual-only run.

Although the race will not be held in the traditional manner, the Nebraska Football Road Race leadership in partnership with the Lincoln Track Club will do everything possible to make this a special, and exciting race-day experience.

"This is a really special event and something the team looks forward to every year," Nebraska Football sophomore Ryan Schommer, a member of the Road Race leadership team, reflects. "We're pretty bummed that we can't do it in person, but are really glad that we can still to do something and rally together and support for such a worthy cause."

Runners will have a two-week window to compete their 5K or 1-mile race. Registration will remain open through June 28th. Everyone who participates in the Virtual Race will receive exclusive access to a virtual race day video program, a finishers certificate signed by select Huskers, and a "Stronger Together" wristband. In addition, the first 500 registrants will receive a free ticket to the 2021 Nebraska Football Spring Game.

All proceeds from the race benefit the Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center in partnership with UNMC and Nebraska Medicine to support research efforts for pediatric brain cancer.

Junior quarterback Adrian Martinez comments on his experience with the event, "During my time at Nebraska, I have been able to serve the community in so many meaningful ways. Taking a leadership role in raising awareness and funds for pediatric brain cancer is something I am especially proud to be a part of."
