NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - A burn permit turned into an out of control prairie fire Saturday afternoon.

Battalion Chief Jim Einspahr says a North Platte resident had an active permit to burn yard waste over the weekend. A wind shift and lack of moisture caused the fire to burn out of control and move northeast from its original position.

Thirteen total fire departments responded and three airplanes dropped water on the flames, from towns like Wallace, Cozad and Broken Bow. Crews had the fire under control by 4 p.m.

A total of 2,100 acres burned. The fire caused damage to a North Platte grass rig. No injuries were reported.
