SIDNEY - April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and PlainsWest CASA in Sidney is raising awareness by placing pinwheels throughout area communities - the national symbol for child abuse and neglect prevention.

CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates for children and volunteers speak for the best interests of abused and neglected children who are involved in the juvenile court system by addressing the health, safety, permanency and well-being of each child.

PlainsWest CASA Executive Director Krista Bruns encourages individuals to play a role in making Cheyenne, Deuel and Kimball Counties a better place for children and families. CASA volunteers are trained to understand the impact of trauma on children. They advocate for services that promote healing and help children build resilience.

Bruns joined KSID's Community Connection during Swap Shop on Thursday to talk about the CASA program, child abuse during the COVID-19 pandemic and details about their Night of Music Fundraiser on August 15 at the Sidney High School Performing Arts Center. Listen to the full conversation HERE.
