SIDNEY, NE - The Sidney Fire Department battled a  grass fire Monday Evening.

First reports of the blaze came in shortly before 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Crews arrived to the scene near County roads 109 and 26 just north of Sidney with three engines, three tenders, a utility truck and 18 personnel to fight the flames.

Sidney Fire Department officials say it took about 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control. Crews remained on scene for another couple of hours to put out any hot spots. They left the scene shortly after 8 p.m. About 40 acres were involved.

A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for the area until 7 p.m. Mountain Time tonight. A Red Flag Warning means weather conditions are causing a critical fire danger.

Winds of 15-20 miles per hour with gusts to 35 mph are expected Tuesday. Humidity is expected to be as low as 15-20 percent. Outdoor burning is highly discouraged as any fire started could spread very rapidly.
