BEATRICE – Beatrice could be getting another grocery store before year’s end.  Hy-Vee Corporation has acquired the former Shopko Hometown Store building, from Stan Meyer, of Beatrice…who made the sale announcement on Facebook.

Meyer and his wife Judy own the Indian Creek Mall and the Ashley Home Store Business.  Stan Meyer said Hy-Vee will start remodeling and plans to open in the next three to five months.

Shopko closed its East Court Street store as part of a company-wide series of store closings nearly a year ago.  The Beatrice store has been vacant since that time.

Hy-Vee, an Iowa-based corporation began with a small store in Beaconsfield, Iowa in 1930…and now has over 265 stores in Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin. 

Hy-Vee headquarters in West Des Moines, Iowa and has sales of over $10 billion annually, ranking it among the top 25 supermarket chains in the U.S.
