FAIRBURY - Empty Classrooms, playgrounds, offices, and hallways.  That’s the scene of schools across the state, including Fairbury Public Schools.  According to Stephen Grizzle, Superintendent of Fairbury public schools over the last couple of days they have been finalizing some of the initial plans the school will use to work through the corona virus closure.

At last night’s board meeting, the school board agreed to keep classified or hourly staff as whole as possible during the closure and prevent anyone from getting laid off.  According to Superintendent Stephen Grizzle, starting Monday the classified employees can come in and work as long as the closure is occurring.  “We’re really excited about that because we didn’t want to lose any of our great employees.”

The next step is formulating the expectations for teaching staff that will start next week as well.  According to Superintendent Grizzle he is pleased with how the staff has stepped up to the challenge of making this break as meaningful as possible “We are already in the process of getting our online capabilities going with our kids, and we’re going to resume our learning activities starting April 1st”

The school will also be offering free meals at two locations to all area children beginning March 23rd with no eligibility requirements.  Both the Central Elementary and the Jr. Sr. High School locations will be using a drive through or walk up delivery method from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.  All Children will be given a hot lunch or cold sack lunch for that day and breakfast for the next morning.  Adults will also have the opportunity to purchase meals as well.

Superintendent Stephen Grizzle will be in the Ol Red 99-5 studios tomorrow morning at 10 AM for a call in segment.  Parents and community members will be able to call in with any questions that they have about the closure or the meal program.   The studio line is 402-729-3383.
