SIDNEY, NE - The Cheyenne County Sheriff is warning the public about a pair of scams recently reported in the area.
In the first case, someone received a call from a group claiming to be Blue Cross Blue Shield. The scam involves Blue Cross Blue Shield saying they updated account numbers for all their members and they need to update banking information.
Blue Cross Blue Shield will not ask about this information over the phone. Cheyenne County Sheriff Adam Frerichs says the person called did not fall for the scam.
The second scam involves a website nextdoor.com. According to Frerichs, the sheriff's office has received multiple reports of people being contacted through letters and email by the website.
The site claims to have items for sale, advertising for local events among other things. Frerichs says the sheriff's office investigated the reports and found the website to be fraudulent.
He warns people against going to the website or giving them any information.
