SIDNEY, NE - As the 2020 election grows ever closer, a challenger for a U.S. Senate seat has been making his way across Nebraska.

Matt Innis, of Lincoln, is challenging the incumbent Ben Sasse who will finish his first term in office this year.

Innis recently stopped by KSID as he was touring part of the state earlier this month.

Innis says he and many other Nebraskans are frustrated with Sasse, particularly with the senator's "never Trump" talk. He claims that Sasse "doesn't represent Nebraskans"

"We need someone that wants to represent the people of Nebraska, that wants to go back to the communities and listen to the people that put you in office," Innis said. "That's the type of representative that we need and that's the type of representative I'll be."

He also commented on the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump, calling it a "joke."

"This was such a partisan hack job and everyone knows it," Innis said.

Innis declared his intentions to run for Senate late last year. He most recently served as Lancaster County Republican Party Chairman from 2011-2015.
