Long talked about, a statewide mass transit study is in the works, sort of.

Buses between Omaha and Lincoln as well as a Grand Island, Hastings and Kearney route are once again under review.

This week that Omaha-Lincoln possibility is getting ramped up with public hearings on possible routes.

Several meetings led by the Nebraska Department of Transportation, aimed at a full-blown study have already been held asking the obvious questions such as cost and which routes are most wanted.

Of course it’s not as if the 50 mile mass transit trip between the state’s two largest cities hasn’t been discussed before, it has.

Once in 2003 but that that study went nowhere.

Some lawmakers tried again in 2015 but despite the fact that no one objected during a state hearing the idea quickly faded.

Backers of mass transit are hoping for a different outcome this time.
