COLUMBUS - Thanks to the generosity of Columbus residents, many don't have to worry about staying warm this time of year.

It was part of News Channel Nebraska's "We've Got You Covered" campaign.

State Farm Agent Annette Alt and businesses such as the Columbus YMCA and Prairie Village Retirement Center participated by being drop-off locations.

Because folks dropped their winter gear into the boxes, others are able to stay warm.

“It came at a perfect time. Our coats are getting kind of low, so we really needed to fill up our totes for that,” said Center for Survivors volunteer coordinator Ginger Maughan.

On Tuesday, NCN picked up the donations to give them to Columbus Public Schools.  CPS told us they have all the items they need -- a good problem to have -- so we decided to give a little Christmas surprise to the Center for Survivors, which they can use to help sexual assault and domestic violence victims.

“Some of these people are fleeing and they leave with nothing, especially a coat. So to be able to give them that coat when they came in--if they didn’t take one--is ideal,” Maughan said.
