COLUMBUS - The floods this past March damaged a lot of property, including the Quail Run Golf Course.

When News Channel Nebraska last covered the story, the city said crews were almost finished cleaning up sand and debris and that they were laying out how they plan bringing the course back to its prestige.

On Monday night, city council members got an update on the progress from Public Property director Doug Moore.

“We have five companies that sent letters of interest," Moore said. "So we asked all five companies that sent us letters of interest for proposals."

He said they must receive the proposals by Nov. 19.

The city said the companies will be using a design-build process to repair the course, which they said will save the town money.

Moore said these contractors have mentioned even doing some renovating.

“We can’t change a whole lot of things if we want to get FEMA funding," he said. "But the companies have worked with FEMA before and they mentioned ‘there’s little things that we can tweak that will make the course better, FEMA won’t even notice.’”

The city said they must follow the FEMA process in order to get 75 percent federal reimbursement for flood repairs.

Other than that, Moore said they've received replacements for benches that the floodwaters destroyed and that they'll begin putting up new shelters this week.

He said the overall project must be finished by September 2020 in order to get FEMA funding.
