LINCOLN - Richardson County in southeast Nebraska is sending two prep volleyball teams to the Nebraska School Activities Association State Volleyball Championships next week in Lincoln.

Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer defeated Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family, 3-1, to win the Class D1-8 District Final Saturday afternoon in Crete. The Titans (24-8) are the No. 7 seed and face No. 2 Diller-Odell (33-1) in the first round on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. The match will be at Lincoln Southeast High School.

HTRS is making their second ever appearance at the state volleyball tournament. In 2010, they lost to Lutheran High Northeast, 26-24, 20-25, 18-25, 14-25, in the first round. Table Rock made it to state twice (1983, 1990) and had a record of 3-1.

The Griffins return to state for the fifth-time in school history. They were state champions in 2015 (D1) and 2016 (C2). They finished in third in 2014 (D1). Last year, they lost to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family, 25-19, 26-28, 21-25, 25-23, 11-15, in the first round.

Falls City Sacred Heart (21-13) is the No. 7 seed in the Class D2 bracket and play No. 2 Wynot (24-3) on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Lincoln Northeast High School.

The Irish topped Wauneta-Palisade in straight-sets, 3-0, in the Class D2-8 District Final Saturday night in Hastings. They return to state for the 11th time in school history (second-straight appearance) where they have won two state championships (the last in 2006). They haven't won a first round match since 2007, including a 19-25, 25-17, 17-25 , 16-25 loss to Ewing last season.

The Blue Devils defeated Mullen in the D2-2 District Final, 3-1, on Saturday at St. Paul High School. They return to state for the eighth time in school history. Wynot finished fourth last season. They have never won a state championship in volleyball.

The Irish and Blue Devils have met in the girls state basketball tournament six times, but this will be the first time they have played at state volleyball.

The state tournament runs through Saturday.
