JOHNSON - Quarterback Caleb Fossenbarger threw for 279 yards and five touchdowns on 15-19 passing, and the No. 4 Johnson-Brock football team defeated No. 13 Wynot, 62-14, in the first round of the Nebraska School Activities Association state playoffs on Halloween in Johnson.

The sophomore delivered a treat to the defending Class D2 state champions with seven total touchdowns. He added seven rushes for 26 yards and two touchdowns.

The Eagles turned their focus to fundamentals this week, including tackling, limiting turnovers and special teams, after Falls City Sacred Heart snapped their six-game win streak last week. Head Coach Mitch Roberts was curious how his team would recover, but he says they bounced back in a big way.

"We did some things really well tonight," Roberts said. "We executed some things we worked on all week during practice. We get to the playoffs, and we survive and advance. You just hope you play your best football right now."

The Eagles jumped out to a 38-0 lead and were up 54-8 at halftime. They didn't punt until the third quarter. They finished with 368 total yards. The defense forced four turnovers.

Senior wide receiver Ty Hahn caught 11 passes for 248 yards and two touchdowns.

Johnson-Brock improves to 7-2 this season and will host Plainview in the second round on Wednesday. The time will be announced later this week.

The Blue Devils finish the season 3-6.

Anthony Haberman and Hunter Heimes each had a score for Wynot.
