Santee Tribal Housing Director charged with sexual assault of a child

OMAHA — A tribal public housing director could face life in prison if convicted of child sexual assault charges.
65-year-old Warren Mackey of Niobrara was charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child and abusive sexual contact in a US District Court indictment released Wednesday.
Court documents say the 11-year-old victim told investigators that Mackey touched her inappropriately early on August 5. The victim says Mackey had her drive him from bar to bar the night before. The alleged crime happened on the Santee Sioux Reservation.
The maximum penalty for each of the charges is life in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Mackey is listed online as the Executive Director of the Santee Sioux Tribal Housing Authority.
Mackey is in custody awaiting trial.
