Beatrice Girl Taken to Lincoln Hospital, Following Bike-Trailer Collision

BEATRICE – A ten-year-old Beatrice girl was hospitalized after being involved in a bicycle, pickup trailer accident near 6th and Monroe, Tuesday night.
Beatrice Police Officer Ethan Jordan says the girl was crossing U.S. Highway 77, but not in a crosswalk, when her bicycle ran into a trailer being pulled by a southbound pickup.
The truck was driven by 34-year-old Tyler Phelps, of Beatrice. Jordan says a witness traveling behind the pickup and trailer said it appeared the girl was attempting to pass in front of the pickup, but hesitated….then began to cross when her bicycle collided with the trailer.
The girl was taken to Bryan Health West Medical Center in Lincoln, for treatment of a broken arm and other injuries. Officer Jordan says the girl was doing fine. He says the pickup driver had the green light at the 6th and Monroe intersection when the accident happened, at around seven p.m.
A witness to the accident stopped to halt traffic and make sure no one else ran into the accident scene, prior to police and EMS personnel arriving.
