Students Begin Fall Semester at Southeast Community College
First day for students, under new semester system at Southeast Community College

BEATRICE – Students returned to the Beatrice Campus of Southeast Community College on Monday, under a new semester-system common to most colleges and universities. It’s been a more than three-year process to make the switch. As for early enrollment...about 714 students are signed up, with 230 residing on campus.
Assistant Campus Director Toni Landenberger notes that the college just dedicated a new residence building, Homestead Hall. A new dining hall is nearly ready. Students taking part in athletics moved to the campus in early August, and many others moved in over the weekend.
Student Activities Coordinator, Carrie Puhalla says emphasis was placed on having a lot of activities to fill the semester schedule. Free food and intramural activities along with a blood donation drive, are a few.
The transition from quarters to semesters involved a lot of work. Admissions Representative Rachel Kreikemeier says that included converting quarter hours to semester hours. Jennalee Wright of Beatrice and Megan Skibenski, of Ord are student ambassadors… and were helping to show students around the campus.
On the first day of classes, students were treated to games and a free barbecue, outside the Kennedy Center. SCC was also holding welcome back events on the Milford and Lincoln campuses of the college.
