NORFOLK - A home that was engulfed by a fire in Norfolk Friday afternoon is a total loss, according to a news release from the Norfolk Fire Department.
First calls of the house fire were reported around 4:15 p.m. on Friday near the 2200 block of Western Circle in Norfolk.
According to a news release, it took over 30 firefighters and five trucks about an hour to bring the fire under control and another hour to extinguish the flames.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but an investigation is underway. Norfolk Fire Chief Scott Cordes said the occupants of the home were at the house at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.
Officials believe the fire started at the back of the house.
Cordes said there was heavy smoke and flames coming from the house when the first crews arrived. There was heavy fire in the rear of the home that had self-vented through the roof.
Neighbors pitched in by keeping an eye on embers blowing in the wind to make sure no secondary fires were started.
Norfolk Police, Hadar Fire and Rescue, Hoskins/Woodland Park Fire and Rescue, Battle Creek Fire and Rescue, NPPD, and Black Hills Energy also responded.
