BEATRICE – You certainly could have excused the head football coach of a major university from fulfilling a speaking engagement…given a new one-month old daughter in his family and a simultaneous move to a new home.

But Nebraska Head Football Coach Scott Frost obliged, speaking before over 200 people at a Beatrice Rotary Club meeting last night, as the local club celebrates 100 years. A couple of years ago, the Huskers landed a Beatrice standout in Cameron Jurgens…whose parents were among those in attendance last night.

Frost said when he came to Nebraska to lead the Huskers, it was an internal battle to get players doing the right things, sacrificing for the team and being accountable.

The head coach, says he loves where his team is right now, in its dedication.

Frost talked about a project he’s used at Oregon as an assistant coach and as head coach at the University of Central Florida. It’s led by a special forces marine who survived a helicopter crash and now teaches a leadership effort called, “The Program”.

Frost said he’s looking forward to the start of football workouts in August, and says his team is “in a good place” right now.

Frost acknowledged that recruiting has gone a little slower, but he says the team will catch up. The head coach says it doesn’t always matter how many recruiting stars a high school player is assigned, by a rating service.

One goal was to revive a walk-on program. Frost said Nebraska now counts 155 players on its roster. He said it will probably take a couple of years before the program sees the benefit of the numbers, as players develop into roles with the team.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers open their 2019 season at home, August 31^st, against South Alabama, then have a trip to Boulder for a match-up with the Colorado Buffaloes, the following week. Home games for the Huskers this year include Ohio State, Northwestern, Indiana, Wisconsin and Iowa.
