KEARNEY - Major highways were shut down Tuesday morning after heavy rains in central Nebraska overnight.

The video above is from Kearney, which saw anywhere from four to five inches of rain overnight.

One report northwest of Kearney read 7.66" of rain last night, while a weather station southwest of Loomis recorded 8.88".

Power was knocked out to a number of central Nebraska homes as power lines fell over highways because of high winds.

Buffalo County officials have spent their morning responding to stranded motorists, in some cases needing airboats.

Standing water shut down Highway 30 in between Kearney and Elm Creek.
