Widespread rainfall is in the forecast over the next five days in the Missouri River Basin, which officials say could leave some Pottawattamie County residents cut off from their homes.

Forecasters estimate that the Missouri River could rise an additional 1.6 feet as a result of the rain. The crest of the latest rise is anticipated around 7 a.m. Friday, the Pottawattamie County Emergency Management office said.

Residents south of 145th Street and Rosewood Road, near Honey Creek, could be affected, officials said, noting that the intersection of 145th and Rosewood already is inundated with water and likely will remain so until levees in northern Pottawattamie County are repaired. Sumac Road and 152nd Street, to the northeast, also may be overtopped when the river rises, officials said.

“We want people in the areas still impacted by ongoing flooding to be aware of the potential over the next few days and take appropriate action now, in case safe access to your property is hindered or completely shut off from this next round of flooding,” Doug Reed, the county’s emergency management director, said in a statement.
