NORFOLK - A local college is helping summer interns in Norfolk by giving them a place to stay.

Northeast Community College offers interns working at local businesses the opportunity to stay in their dorms at a discounted rate. While there, the interns have access to many amenities, such as the dining hall, exercise room, laundry and much more.

Dean of Student Life and Athletics Kurt Kohler says the program benefits the interns, Northeast and the city of Norfolk.

"It gives us here at Northeast the opportunity to bring more people onto campus," Kohler said. "We've got beautiful facilities here, so it's nice for us to be able to showcase what we have, and to allow those interns to get out into the community and experience all of what Norfolk has to offer."

Kohler says there are about 20 interns staying at Northeast this summer. They work for a variety of local businesses.

"We've got several amenities so that the students don't have to struggle to find a place or sign a short-term lease," Kohler said. "They can be here and really get involved in the community. They can spend their money in the community and just get connected with the different organizations and businesses here."
