BEATRICE - A preliminary hearing is set for one of three men charged in a burglary of a Tecumseh couple's home, where two of the men were shot by one of the owners, allegedly in self-defense.

Judge Steve Timm scheduled a July 3rd preliminary hearing in Johnson County Court for 26-year-old Kolton Bridgewater, charged with burglary, making a terroristic threat and attempted 2nd-degree assault. His appearance bond is set at $75,000. Bridgewater is barred from contact or being near the Tecumseh home of Raymond and Janet Brown. He is also prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Also charged is 20-year-old Levi Bridgewater. He is accused of burglary, attempted 2nd-degree assault and use of a firearm to commit a felony. An arrest warrant was issued for him, May 16th.

According to a Nebraska State Patrol affidavit, the Bridgewaters and their father Kenneth Bridgewater, went to a Tecumseh home late in the evening May 10th, to assault Raymond Brown, and that Brown shot Levi and Kolton Bridgewater in self-defense. Both men were taken to Johnson County Hospital, then transferred to Bryan Health West in Lincoln.

According to the state patrol affidavit, Brown said as a group of three people entered his home, he fired multiple shots. He also said he struggled with Kenneth Bridgewater, taking a gun away from him.

Kenneth Bridgewater is scheduled to appear in Johnson County Court in early June.

Authorities learned that Raymond Brown, Kolton and Levi Bridgewater are employed by the same company, and that they had all been laid off the same week of the incident. A State patrol investigator said in the affidavit that there had been hard feelings between different groups of employees because of recent and past work-related events.

Authorities also used home surveillance video to trace a vehicle used in the incident, which they believe had been purchased by Levi Bridgewater at a Nebraska City dealership. The pickup was discovered at the scene, along Washington Street in Tecumseh.
