By News Channel NebraskaPIERCE, NE (Pierce Emergency Management) - NOTICE TO PIERCE RESIDENTS
During a routine examination of the Willow Creek dam, a suspected boil was discovered. Upon further examination and discussion with the NRD it was determined that this was a pressure relief well. This well is a designed feature of the dam to relieve ground water pressure and it is operating as it should be. Officials will continue to monitor the dam structure throughout the event and will notify the public if there are changes. Also the Spencer Dam break will have no effect on the area.
Water levels of the Willow Creek Reservoir continue to rise but the dam is doing what it was designed to do. Officials anticipate increased water flow of the Willow Creek over the next several days.
The North Fork of the Elkhorn River east of Pierce has been receding since 7:00 AM Thursday morning.
