Early Morning Accident Causes Death Of Columbus Teen
COLUMBUS - An accident early Tuesday morning caused the death of a Columbus teen.
The Platte County Sheriff's Office says that around 2:00 AM on Tuesday, March 26th, deputies responded to a single-vehicle accident approximately 1/4 mile east of E. 29th Avenue on E. 38th Street.
An investigation revealed that a 2007 Dodge Ram pickup driven by 19-year-old Juan Cordero of rural Columbus exited the roadway traveling eastbound on E. 38th Street, and entered the north ditch. The pickup rolled, and came to rest on its top.
Cordero was extricated from the vehicle by the Columbus Fire Department, and pronounced dead at the scene. Cordero was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, and airbags did not deploy.
The possibility of alcohol as a factor in the accident remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Office. Columbus Fire & Rescue responded to and assisted at the scene.
