Nearly three years after the disappearance of Sydney Loofe, the case could be reaching its long-awaited conclusion on Wednesday. Jurors in the trial of Bailey Boswell are convening in the morning, with a verdict possible as early as today. The trial, which was moved to Lexington earlier this year, has convened for over two weeks. It is the second trial in the case after Aubrey Trail was convicted in 2019.

Jurors have seen pictures of the dismembered remains of Loofe, DNA evidence, phone tracking records and videos of Boswell and Trail. Boswell’s attorney, Todd Lancaster, argued for the dismissal of charges on Tuesday, stating that the state has provided insufficient evidence tying Boswell to the actual crime. He argued that while she was tied to Trail, she herself was not tied to the actual act of murder. Judge Vicky Johnson dismissed that effort, allowing proceedings to continue.

As early as Tuesday, families for both Loofe and Boswell were in the courtroom, and now all parties await the potential decision from jurors. Boswell, who stands accused of first-degree murder and conspiracy charges, could face the death penalty.
