Monument Advisors referred to Hall County Attorney for 37 possible theft cases

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- The Grand Island Police Department has referred a Grand Island business to the attorney’s office.
According to a statement by Grand Island Police, investigators have found cause to forward 37 of the 59 reported incidents involving headstone company Monument Advisors to the Hall County Attorney office for review.
After a two-month investigation, they accused business owner Kelli Lepler used deceptive practices in eliciting business from customers and made no attempt to fulfill 37 orders after receiving payment.
According to police, this constitutes 33 felony counts of theft by deception and four additional misdemeanor counts of theft by deception totaling over $200,000 in loss by the victims.
Michelle Tatro is one of those saying she was wronged by Monument Advisors and started a Facebook page for fellow victims. She said she’s happy about the outcome and thanks GIPD for its work.
"Like this is a small step in the right direction," Tatro said. "I hope the attorneys take the next step seriously."
The next step is for the Hall County Attorney’s Office to review the findings of the investigation and determine if there’s a cause for a criminal complaint into the court system.
NCN tried to reach the owner Kelli Lepler, but phone calls to the business went unanswered.
