SIDNEY, NE — Members of the Sidney and Potter Volunteer Fire Departments spent the early Sunday morning hours battling a large vehicle fire.

Sidney Fire Department Assistant Chief Matt Butts says first responders were called to the scene at Wright's Trucking and Harvesting just after 2:00 a.m. Sunday. The first crews to arrive encountered two semi trucks and trailers and a fifth wheel camper full engulfed in flames. With the fire spreading to other vehicles, Sidney called for mutual aid from the Potter Volunteer Fire Department.

It took crews about an hour to bring the flames under control. Butts says three semi trucks, four semi trailers, a custom built sleeping semi trailer and a fifth wheel trailer were damaged. Losses are estimated at around $1 million.

Four people were sleeping in a camper near the fire. All occupants made it out safely and the unit was not damaged by the flames.

The fire is under investigation by the Nebraska State Fire Marshal's Office.

Crews remained on scene until around 7:30 a.m. Sidney responded with eight vehicles and seventeen personnel. Potter brought four vehicles and eight people when called for mutual aid. The Sidney Police Department and Regional West EMS also responded to the scene.
